Have You Considered PDO Threads?

With today’s advancements in the cosmetic field, you don’t have to go under the knife to give yourself a more youthful appearance. Polydioxanone (PDO) threads offer a nonsurgical option to give your neck and face a lift while smoothing out your wrinkles and fine lines.

At Empire Dental Group in Old Bridge, New Jersey, Alla Pavlushkin, DDS, is AAFE certified in PDO threads, offers his expertise with this cosmetic technique to help you look younger and boost your self-esteem.

Areas that a PDO thread lift can treat

PDO thread lifts treat areas that show signs of aging. The most common areas treated include:

  • Cheeks
  • Jawline
  • Chin
  • Neck
  • Eyes
  • Smoker’s lines

A PDO thread lift doesn’t give you the extreme results you might have with a facelift. However, you can have a PDO thread lift used with other anti-aging procedures, such as dermal fillers, to achieve optimum results without surgery.

How a PDO thread lift procedure works

PDO threads are dissolvable sutures that trigger your cells to produce collagen, which gives your skin elasticity and structure to lift sagging skin on your face and lessen the appearance of wrinkles.

Your skin also develops better circulation of blood, which tightens your skin and improves its texture.

The threads are colorless and break down in your body after about 4-6 months, and provide lasting results for 12-24 months.

What to expect during a PDO thread lift procedure

Before your procedure, we provide some general guidelines for you to follow to make sure you don’t have any complications. For example, we advise that five days before your lift, you avoid anything that could cause an increase in your risk for bleeding or bruising, such as drinking alcohol, smoking or chewing tobacco, or taking medications like ibuprofen or aspirin.

On the day of your treatment, we have you sit back in a reclined chair, and we clean your face with an alcohol-based disinfectant. We then give you a local anesthetic under your skin to make sure you don’t feel any pain during your procedure.

Once the targeted area is numb, Dr. Pavlushkin makes a small incision and inserts a very small device called a cannula to anchor the threads in place. He then retracts the cannula, cuts the threads, and makes sure they securely stay in place.

What to expect after a PDO thread lift procedure

You’re free to get back to your regular activities right when you walk out the door after your procedure. You may experience some bruising and swelling for about 24-28 hours, which is normal.

It’s best to avoid touching or rubbing your face for a week after your lift to make sure you don’t accidentally dislodge your threads. You should also try to sleep on your back, avoid strenuous exercise, and don’t get in a sauna.
