Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment that provides an alternative to traditional metal braces. Instead of using brackets, rubber bands, and wires to straighten your teeth and jaw, it uses a series of custom-crafted plastic aligners.
Invisalign aligners are made from a highly-durable thermoplastic called SmartTrack®. SmartTrack is FDA-approved and free of BPS, BPA, latex, and gluten, making it safe for people with allergies and pregnant women.
Dr. Pavlushkin and the team use Invisalign to correct a variety of common alignment problems, including:
You might also benefit from treatment with Invisalign if you have a malpositioned jaw.
Invisalign treatment begins with an in-office consultation. During your appointment, Dr. Pavlushkin conducts an oral exam, reviews your dental health history, and asks about your goals for treatment. She also takes oral X-rays to assess the position of your teeth and jaw.
Next, Dr. Pavlushkin takes digital scans of your mouth. She uploads them to a computer-aided design program and develops a custom orthodontic treatment plan that maps the gradual movements of your teeth. After finalizing the plan, Dr. Pavlushkin sends your scans to a dental laboratory that makes your first set of Invisalign aligners.
Throughout Invisalign treatment, you attend routine check-ups every 2-3 weeks. At each appointment, you transition to a new set of aligners that place gradual pressure on your teeth. To achieve the best possible results, wear your aligners for at least 22 hours each day, only taking them out to eat or brush your teeth.
Invisalign treatment typically takes between 6-12* months, but it can sometimes take longer. To speed up the process, it’s important to follow Dr. Pavlushkin’s instructions carefully. Once you’re finished wearing the aligners, you transition to a custom retainer. The retainer ensures your teeth remain properly aligned.
Invisalign aligners are just like traditional braces in that they collect food particles, plaque, and bacteria. To keep them in optimal condition, Dr. Pavlushkin and the team recommend rinsing your aligners several times a day in warm water. For more intensive cleanings, ask the team about the Invisalign cleaning system.
