Botox® Versus Fillers: Which One is Right For You?

Botox® Versus Fillers: Which One is Right For You?

With so many cosmetic services on the market today, how do you know which one is right for you? When it comes to erasing your fine lines and wrinkles, Botox® and dermal fillers are popular choices. But, again, how do you know which one to choose?

Alla Pavlushkin, DDS, and Steven Reff, DDS, listen to your aesthetic goals and provide guidance to help you achieve the appearance you want. Leading our team with the highest level of expertise at Empire Dental Group in Old Bridge, New Jersey, they offer Botox and dermal fillers treatments.

When you come in for a consultation, we evaluate the condition of your skin and determine which treatment might be right for you. In some cases, you may choose to use both.

How Botox works

Botox is a botulinum toxin that we use to enhance your appearance, injecting very small amounts into your targeted wrinkles and creases. While many choose Botox for cosmetic reasons, it can treat other conditions, as well, such as underarm sweating, chronic migraine, and an overactive bladder.

When injected, Botox stops the communication between your nerves and muscles, causing them to stay still. When they no longer contract, your wrinkles relax and soften your appearance.

For cosmetic purposes, it mostly treats your crow’s feet, forehead lines, and deep creases around your mouth.

Your treatment doesn’t require anesthesia and only takes a few minutes, causing very mild discomfort. You should see the full effect in 7-14 days, and your results should last 3-6 months.

How dermal fillers work

Dermal fillers use hyaluronic acid and similar substances to reverse the signs of aging by filling areas where you’ve lost collagen. They can:

Wherever you have lost collagen, dermal fillers help repair the elasticity in your skin. Some fillers last 6-12 months, and others can last 2-5 years.

Choosing Botox and dermal fillers at the same time

Botox and dermal fillers work well together. Botox relaxes the constant contractions of your muscles that cause the deep wrinkles and creases while dermal fillers fill out your static wrinkles.

Botox can be used as a preventive measure to delay the appearance of wrinkles, while dermal fillers restore fullness to areas where you lost fat.

The combination of having both procedures gives you a youthful appearance, softening areas that contract on a regular basis and filling out creases and lines on your face.
