General Dentistry includes services related to the general maintenance of tooth health and oral hygiene.
While some may believe that dentistry in general is preventative and avoidable, The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends that you visit a dentist regularly (once every six months) for a check up, to ensure proper functionality and oral hygiene. These visits can prevent the development of serious dental problems, and ultimately: costly treatments.
Research indicates that there is a direct correlation between oral health and heart disease. According to the American Academy of Periodontology, poor oral health can also lead to other health problems- there is an association between periodontal diseases and other chronic inflammatory conditions, such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease and Alzheimer’s disease. Therefore, treating inflammation may not only help manage periodontal diseases but may also help with the management of other chronic inflammatory conditions.
